Despite numerous tragedies, the number of people charged with impaired driving, whether by alcohol or drugs, continues to rise annually. During the festive season alone, between November 27, 2020 and January 3, 2021, officers in York Region charged 142 drivers with impaired driving-related offences. Despite restaurant and bar closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that was still a slight increase from 135 the previous year.

Together with our partners and our community, we are not giving up in our fight against impaired driving.

We focus our efforts on strategic enforcement, such as year-round RIDE initiatives, public education through our many media and social media campaigns, such as Driving's Tough Enough, and ongoing community programs, such as Safe Roads: Your Call, which encourages residents to call 9-1-1 if they spot an impaired driver.
