Please note: As of January 1, 2016, the Customer Service Unit will no longer be processing background checks from the Whitchurch-Stouffville Community Substation. All services will continue at the Community Resource Centre.
A records check is only one tool in promoting public safety. It is not a "stamp of approval" from the police and is not a guarantee of safety from the individual providing the record check. A clear police record is simply a snapshot in time.
The York Regional Police Customer Service Unit provides three separate kinds of police background checks:
The unit also performs Real Time Identification Fingerprint Services in compliance with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) ministerial directive, in addition to providing copies of accident reports and certain incident reports.
Want to save yourself the trip to one of our customer service locations? Online police background checks are now available, provided the applicant does not require fingerprinting services.
To apply for a police background check, please print and complete the appropriate form before attending one of our Customer Service locations. Online police background checks are now available, provided applicants do not require fingerprinting services to complete their check.
When attending, be prepared to provide two pieces of valid identification, confirming your name, date of birth and address. One piece of identification must include a photo.
All students must present a valid student card to qualify for the discount. A student card is defined as a card that indicates attendance to a recognized educational facility, university, college or high school. A student card must have an expiry date. Cards will not be accepted from a licenced professional who has completed their studies within the program and is expected to continue their education to enhance or requalify their skills.
All applicants applying for a volunteer position must provide a letter from the agency where they intend to volunteer. The agency letter must be on the agency's letterhead with the applicant's name and volunteer position. The agency letter should also state this is a "volunteer non-paid position."
Volunteerism is benevolent work for which an individual does not receive financial compensation for his/her time and is not ordered to do so by a court or a judicial body. In order to have the fee discounted, your application must be accompanied by a letter from the volunteer organization with the following information:
Since processing times vary, please allow a minimum of two to four weeks for the response to be mailed. Responses may also be picked up from Customer Service locations if requested at the time the application is submitted. Please see the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for all information on how to submit your fingerprints if you are making a request outside Canada.
